http://news.bbc.co.uk/today/hi/today/newsid_7598000/7598686.stm Unusual response from Stephen Hawking, in response to a question about whether he thought he’d get a Nobel Prize: “If the LHC were to produce little black holes, I don’t think there’s any doubt I would get a Nobel prize, if they showed the properties I predict. However, I think the probability that the LHC has enough energy to create black holes, is less than 1%, so I’m not holding my breath.” 11:04

… t. But it was rather serious. We do need to be prepared for extreme events. Mr Henderson, London, UK According to Stephen Hawkings the chance that the the LHC has enough energy to create micro-black holes is less than 1%, as reportedby the BBC’s Today programme, Hawkings would be happy to be wrong, if the Hawking radiation is observed he would be highly likely to receive a Nobel Prize. Prince Charles is yet to make any comment. Tags: Science, Large Hadron Collider …

I’ve been meaning to write a post on this for a while, so here it is: Stephen Hawking and Peter Higgs: disagree on existence of the Higgs boson Hawkingrenewed his bet of 100$ that the Higgs boson will not be found at the LHC, making the point that it will make for more interesting physics if it isn’t. (The Higgs boson is the one particle of the Standard Model of particle physics that has not bee …

… Higgs would endow all other particles with mass, and it would help to complete the so-called standard model of particle physics. But not everyone thinks the Higgs is there to be found. On Tuesday, famous cosmologist Stephen Hawking announced he wasbetting US$100that the LHC wouldn't find the Higgs particle. What's more, he said it would be "more exciting" if physicists didn't find it. Peter Higgs, the man for whom Higgs is named, didn't find that very funny. As it's being …
